See Red Women’s Collective talk, 4 – 5pm (open to non-members)
Scottish Artists Union is delighted to host a presentation from member's of See Red Women's Workshop.
See Red Women's Workshop ran from 1974 to 1990. It was a creative collective of women working together to make posters and calendars that tackled issues of sexuality, identity and oppression. The collective grew out of a shared desire to combat sexist images of women and create positive and challenging alternatives. Working collectively was central to the ethos of See Red, as was sharing skills and knowledge.
The collectives now-legendary posters use humour and bold graphics to express the personal experiences of women and their role in broader struggles for change. Whilst some conditions of society have changed since the group were operating, many of their messages continue to resonate strongly today.
Join us to hear more about See Red and their work from members Anne Robinson and Prudence Stevenson.
Free, open to everyone - you don't need to be a SAU member!
