We are the representative voice of artists working in Scotland
We represent over 2000 visual artists, applied artists and makers.
We work on behalf of our members, defending their rights, expanding their benefits, and fighting to make a professional career in the arts sustainable for all our members.
Politically, the union lobbies for the rights and values of artists within Scotland through regular meetings and contacts with Scottish Government Ministers, opposition MSPs and Creative Scotland. We work closely with the other arts organisations, cultural Trade Unions, and the Scottish Trade Union Congress.
We are a democratic organisation, we are registered as an official Scottish Trade Union.
We can assist you with issues related to studios, galleries and employers, we offer advice on matters of best practice. The Scottish Artists Union also conducts research into issues affecting artists working lives such as rates of pay, tax and contracts.
Members receive many other benefits, including Free Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance, free learning and professional development opportunities, and discounts from leading suppliers of materials and services for artists.
We are the pre-eminent representative body for practising visual and applied artists in Scotland.
Members are visual and applied artists and arts administrators working in Scotland.
As well as Full and Assocaite Membership, in 2018 we launched a Graduate Membership for undergraduates, graduates and post-graduate artists and makers.
